Clear view fencing with an electric fence on top, across Johannesburg and Gauteng

We put up clear view fencing, a see-through steel mesh that’s hard to climb and slow to cut, and build an electric fence on top of it, all on one quote. From our base in Walkerville we cover Johannesburg, Pretoria, the East Rand and the Midvaal.

We build the mesh, the gates and the electric fence ourselves, and certify the electric fence when it’s done.

A solid wall gives a criminal cover, and an old fence gives them a foothold

  • You want to see the street, but keep people out.
  • The old fence is rusted, bent or easy to climb.
  • Someone got over the wall and nobody saw a thing.
  • You’d rather deal with one company for the fence and the electric fence.

The mesh slows people down, and the electric fence on top raises the alarm

  • The openings are too small for fingers or toes, so there’s nothing to grip or stand on.
  • The welded wires are close together, so cutting through takes time, noise and proper tools.
  • You, your neighbours, passing patrols and your cameras can all see the boundary.
  • The live strands on top deter anyone going over, and the alarm goes off if a strand is cut or shorted. No fence stops a determined person for good: the mesh slows them down, and the electric fence tells you they’re there.
  • The fence, the gates and the electric fence come on one written quote, from one contact.

Send a pin and a few photos of the boundary, and we’ll take it from there.

From a pin on a map to a certified fence in four steps

  1. Send a pin and photos. WhatsApp us a Google Maps pin, a few photos of the boundary and the rough length.
  2. We measure on site. We agree the height, the gates, the finish and the electric fence with you.
  3. One written quote that itemises the mesh, the posts, the gates and the electric fence on top.
  4. We build it, test it and certify it. Posts in concrete, panels up, gates hung, then the electric fence, tested zone by zone. You get the certificate and we show you how it all works.

What moves the price of clear view fencing

  • Height and length. Taller panels cost more, and very short runs cost more per metre.
  • The ground. Slopes, rock and old foundations take more work.
  • The finish. The coating and the colour you choose.
  • Gates. Sliding or swing, and whether they get a gate motor.
  • What’s there now. Taking out an old fence, palisade or wall adds work.
  • The electric fence on top. The number of strands, the energiser and the zones.

We measure before we quote, and you get a written price per metre. Any quote or call-out fee is told up front, and we don’t go over the quote without your OK.

Send the rough length and a few photos, and we’ll arrange to measure.

Commercial perimeter fence with electric strands

Clear view, clearview, ClearVu, 358 or anti-climb mesh: the names you’ll hear for this fence

People search for it as clear view, clearview or ClearVu fencing. In the trade it’s also called 358 mesh, anti-climb mesh or high-security welded mesh.

  • ClearVu® is Cochrane’s brand name for its clear view security fence.
  • Betaview 358 and Securifor 358 are Betafence’s clear view mesh ranges.
  • 358 mesh is the usual pattern: openings of 76.2 × 12.7 mm (3 × ½ inch) in 4 mm (8-gauge) wire.
  • Anti-climb describes what those small openings do: there’s nothing to grip or stand on.

We install generic clear view security mesh, not a branded product, with an electric fence on top. Makes differ in wire thickness, coating, posts and fixings, so ask us for the specification and we’ll explain how it compares for your site.

Steel posts in concrete and panels fixed tight, even on a slope

  • Posts in concrete, spaced to the panels and set plumb, so the line stays straight.
  • On a slope, the panels step down with the ground, leaving no gap underneath to crawl through.
  • The height we recommend for the site. Estates often set their own limits, so check your rules first.

The electric fence goes on top of the mesh, built to SANS 10222-3 and certified

  • Brackets on the posts carry the live strands above the mesh and clear of it, because a strand touching the mesh shorts the fence.
  • A Nemtek energiser, sized to the fence, with zones so you know which side was touched.
  • Earthing and lightning protection for dry Highveld soil and summer storms.
  • Battery backup, so it keeps working through power cuts.
  • Linked to your alarm and armed response company if you want.
  • Warning signs where the standard asks for them. Razor or barbed wire is never electrified.
  • The certificate comes from us when it’s done, because we’re registered electric fence installers. More on the electric fence COC.

Already have a clear view fence without an electric fence? We can add one to it.

Matching clear view gates, sliding or swing, ready for a gate motor

A fence is only as strong as its gate. We fit sliding and swing gates in the same mesh and automate them with Centurion or ET Nice gate motors, with access control at the gate if you need it.

Who puts up clear view, and why

  • Homeowners want a front boundary they can see through, so the house stays visible from the street and nobody can hide behind a wall.
  • Estates and complexes want a perimeter that looks the same all the way round.
  • Factories, warehouses and yards get a boundary their cameras can see through, with the electric fence split into zones. See commercial and industrial electric fencing.
  • On smallholdings and farms, it goes around the house and yard, where you want to see out. See farm and game fencing.

We quote clear view fencing across Johannesburg, Pretoria, the East Rand and the Midvaal

From our base in Walkerville we cover all of Johannesburg, from Joburg South (Alberton, Brackenhurst, Meyersdal, Glenvista, Mulbarton) to Joburg North, plus Pretoria, the East Rand and the Midvaal (Walkerville, Meyerton, Henley on Klip, Randvaal, De Deur). Further afield? Ask us: one of our recent jobs was an electric fence on 2.4 m clear view at a coastal estate in Plettenberg Bay.

Questions

Questions people ask us

What’s the price of clear view fencing per metre?

It depends on the height, the length, the ground, the finish, the gates and the electric fence on top. We measure first and quote per metre in writing. WhatsApp us the rough length and a few photos to get started.

Is clear view fencing the same as ClearVu?

Not quite. Clear view is the general name for welded anti-climb security mesh, and ClearVu® is Cochrane’s brand of it; Betafence sells its own as Betaview 358 and Securifor 358. We install generic clear view mesh with an electric fence on top, and we’ll give you its specification so you can compare.

Is clear view fencing better than palisade?

For security, usually yes. Its small openings leave nothing to grip and are slow to cut, and it’s easier to see through. Palisade is still a solid deterrent, and either is far stronger with an electric fence on top.

Can you put an electric fence on top of clear view fencing?

Yes, on a new clear view fence or one you already have. We fit brackets to the posts and run the electric fence above the mesh, built to SANS 10222-3, then issue the electric fence certificate. With a new fence, both go on one quote; for an existing one, send us a photo of the top of the fence and the rough length.

Do you do clear view gates?

Yes. Sliding and swing gates in matching mesh, ready for a Centurion or ET Nice gate motor, with access control if you need it.

Do I need an electric fence certificate for a clear view fence?

Only for the electric fence on top: the certificate covers the electric fence, not the mesh. You’ll need one when you sell, because conveyancers ask for it, and only a registered electric fence installer may issue it. We issue it when the job is done.
